| Harry Truman once said ‘a pessimist is one who makes difficulties of his opportunities and an optimist is one who makes opportunities of his difficulties’ and it is true.
We are witnesses to the worst economic slowdown in centuries which many have compared to the Great Depression of 1930s. The dismal economic news continues to dampen the hopes of millions across the globe.
But John F. Kennedy once stated;
‘When written in Chinese the word ‘crisis’ is composed of 2 characters – one represents danger and the other represents opportunity’.
The above statement is deep. In reality, those who find opportunities in all times are the successful ones. And to prove this a study by Kauffman Foundation in US has revealed that ‘2009 will be remembered as the year business startups reached record levels in 14 years –even exceeding the 1999-2000 technology boom’ (CNN)
US is witnessing small business start-ups, especially by the young individuals, who are turning to owning their own businesses rather than to find a full time entry level job.
One fine example is Zephyr Basine, the editor-in-chief of CollegeFashion.net who started the website in sophomore year in University of Massachusetts. The lack of fashion publications directed at college students led to the creation of the website that now hosts 1.5 million page views per month. It earns Basine more than what she could have in a full-time job (CNN).
Don’t let recession get to you. Accept the challenge and let your creativity flow no matter where in the world you are. Those who challenge the obstacles are the winners. So turn your world around, be positive and become a winner.
