PostSubject: Are laws of physics not same everywhere in universe?   Thu Sep 16, 2010 11:06 pm

Okay when 9D (or rather some server) went down today. I finally decided to read article sent to me by my buddy (crazy man he will study on Oxford and stuff).

http://www.economist.com/node/16930866

This article made me go whaaaaaaaaa?

Quote:
RICHARD FEYNMAN, Nobel laureate and physicist extraordinaire, called ita “magic number” and its value “one of the greatest damn mysteries ofphysics”.[...] If it were a mere 4% bigger or smaller than it is, stars would not be able to sustain the nuclear reactions [...] consequence would be that squishy, carbon-based life would not exist.

This article says that this alpha thingy differs through universe. They cannot check which value used to calculate this constant ( electron's electric charge, speed of light, Planck's constant, Pi number) is changing, but if ANY of this (imagine Pi changing throughout universe ) is different in other places in universe, we should get niceeee biiiiiig biiiiiig bin, and start throwing some laws in that (along with books). All this values are considered to be inchangeable constants being used to calculate different things (Planck's constant is a part of many other constant values, it changes and optics, chemistry and lot more sciences got shaked). Also this can be related to 4th 5th or more th dimentions... Quite hard to tame with our tiny human minds is it not?

Me?: What I've felt, what I've known, turn the pages, turn to stone...

Quick mini bump.

The concept isn't new, and I've only read the quote. There are a few things I'd like to refer you to if you are interested but that involves massive uploads SO I'll do it over the weekend.

BTW, thanks for posting this, I've been meaning to post the other stuff since ages but too lazy to.

I know it is not new. This article says it is not new but they were not sure...
